Long rest & Death
Long rest
A long rest is a period of downtime, at least 8 hours long, during which characters sleep or does light activity, such as reading, talking, eating or napping. If the rest is interrupted by at least a 1 hour period of tiring activity (such as fighting, casting spells, running, and generally doing adventuring stuff), the character must begin the rest anew. At the end of a long rest, a character regains all HP and FP.
If the character spends doing light activities or training for at least a week and spends each day at least 2 hours within 100 ft. of an altar of Pravus (the bowl that houses the magical flame) praying, at the end of the duration they can switch their distribution of points for the five base stats, classes, class abilities, skills and knowledges, in the same manner as if they were picking them for the first time. This resting period must not be interrupted by more than an hour of doing strenuous activities that would cancel a long rest.
If an altar is not within reach or if the character decided to not switch, they still deduct the FP for all active abilities they have.
Death
Sometimes, you die. It’s a sad part of role play, but it’s just inevitable.
When your hit points are reduced to 0, you die. Any effects that require you being conscious to function ends. Anyone can take their equipment and use it as they will, unless other effects are in consideration.
You remain dead for 8 hours of in-game time, during which your soul is present in The Crossroads plane of existence, and you may only interact with other beings present there. However, you cannot cast spells or attack others. Attempting so will result in simply no spell appearing, or the attack just passing trough your target.
After that period ends, you are brought back to life, and gain the benefits of a long rest. Your body is healed to the degree that you are not in an immediate threat of death, but missing body parts are not healed beyond this point. This also includes scars. Equipment taken from you returns to your possession and the person who took it loses it.
Death works differently for characters with the Imperfect Immortal trait. If a creature with this ability is reduced to 0 HP, they do not die, but instead go into a catatonic state.
They can still perceive their surroundings, but they gain the paralyzed condition, and can only communicate telepathically with creatures that are within 30 ft. of their corpse (or if the corpse was completely destroyed, the place where they died). Their soul does not travel to the Crossroads, and therefore they cannot interact with anyone there during this time (unless they died there). Any effects that require them being conscious to function ends. Anyone can take their equipment and use it as they will, unless other effects are in consideration. They gain immunity to all damage (as their body is being regrown) and return back to normal after 8 hours, gaining the benefits of a long rest.
